About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

SUNDAY'S ANTI-SERMON #2072

NEWSY BITS...

On Tuesday, Pope Francis--who has called the Internet "a gift from God"--urged 50,000 German altar servers not to waste time on the Internet, smartphones and television, but to spend their time on more productive activities.

A loyal viewer found out about this...

A “sunken” house is seen in the pond of the Kunsthalle Rostock museum in Rostock, Germany, August 1, 2014. The installation “Atlantis” by Finnish artist Tea Maekkipaeae has been set up in the pond on July 31. It is part of the exhibition “Nature and More” with contemporary artists from Finland which will run until September 14, 2014. (Photo by Bernd Wuestneck/EPA)
(I can only assume the "rocks" are fake)

Scientists: Don’t freak out about Ebola.
Everybody: Panic!
Scientists: Freak out about climate change.
Everybody: Meh. Pass me some more coal.

The Lone Star tick is called that because it was found in Texas - and throughout the South. This insect’s bite can cause a strange reaction: an allergic reaction to red meat, such as beef, pork, venison, or rabbit. And it’s spreading- Lone Star ticks have been found all the way up the eastern seaboard of the U.S. One allergist on Long Island has seen almost 200 cases of reactions to meat caused by the tick.

(that reads just like an Onion report...but it's real)

I love learning things on the internet...

Don't know who created this, but think of ISIS and it is very telling.

This is the part I LIKE about religion...

Belittle the Big Bang for asserting that everything emerged from a singularity and everyone goes nuts...
Ask where god came from and no body cares to know.

Every other miracle in the history of miracles were fake except for the half dozen or so your man performed in front of his believers...

It seems everyone needs to think they have found the one true answer...
My "answer" is that there is no answer. That super nova don't give a shit about me or you.

What the fuck does that mean? Even the errors and numerous contradictions? Have these people actually read this book?

People have been making shit up for a long, long time...
Believing in a god must make life easier to understand. And ease your fall into the nothingness of death, but believing don't make it true.

Have you noticed that we don't hear a lot about the devil anymore. You were told he lives under the earth. Do you still believe that?
Psychology? I bet a trained professional told that guy he was delusional and now he hates them all.

Religion in a....

So, we've sent out the probes, we know what lies under our feet in the middle earth, so how is that...oh, never mind.

Am I wasting my time? The rules the creator gave you are that you are not allowed to think...
Imagine the beauty of that. You make up a religion (or steal pieces from other religions) and the first rule is that you are not allowed to think about it. Goebbels would have been proud.

Logic. Use it.

 Seriously?

NOW THE VIEW FROM A REAL PULPIT...

How quickly we are soothed by the voice of someone familiar, a parent, a friend, a celebrity or a musician. But, when we encounter those rocky times in our lives we shut out the one thing that can provide us the ultimate peace – God.

In Scripture, God’s voice is described as gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12); powerful and majestic (Psalm 29:4); striking with flashes of lightning (Psalm 29:7); being able to shake the desert (Psalm 29:8); thunderous in marvelous ways (Job 37:5); and roaring like rushing waters (Ezekiel 43:2).

So, if God’s voice is all of these things, than why in the world don’t we pay attention?  God wants us to figure pieces of God out on our own.  Sure, he gives us prompting, but he wants us to genuinely seek him out.  Hearing God isn’t as easy as having a little chat and some clever dialogue with Morgan Freeman (it’s goooood).  God communicates with us much more subtly.  He lives in believers daily through his Holy Spirit and we can feel his communication and his inspiration with us.
