About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

HISTORY CAN BE ENLIGHTENING

"The Exorcist was the first horror movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar."

===
"In 1940, Charlie Chaplin made a movie, "The Great Dictator", a comedy-of-sort making fun of Germany and Hitler. In that movie, he makes a speech that is arguably the best speech in the history of speeches."

===
"Wyatt Earp standing next to his car in the late 1920s."

===
"Future President of the United States William Howard Taft riding a water buffalo during his governorship of the Philippines, 1902."

===
"A crowd gathers to laugh at Jews who are forced to clean the pavement in Vienna, Austria in 1938. This would be the beginning of forceful manual labor, constant abuse, deportation and death for every Jew in this image."

===
"Tippu Tip from Zanzibar was one of the largest slave and ivory traders in the 1800s. Here he is posing in 1886. He would have his men kidnap and then sell people from the tribes all in and around his territory."

===

"Armenian women with their children in a concentration camp in Turkey (notice the barbed wire in the background) as part of the Ottoman Empire in 1915. This was during the Armenian Genocide as the Turks systematically wiped out up to 1.5 million Armenians. The women in this picture would eventually be separated from their children. The children would be bottled up in groups, and slowly starved to death by the Turks. The women, if useful, did labor jobs before dying as well from either starvation or execution. Notice no men are present, as they have most likely already been executed or put into forced labor. It is very likely every woman and child in this picture would be dead within a year from when this was taken. Turkey to this day still refuses to acknowledge the genocide."

Franklin Delano Roosevelt with a friend, 1913.

"Women imported from Thailand pose for a picture at an exhibition in what would be know as a Human Zoo in Paris, France in 1889. Human Zoos had people from Africa, Asia, certain islands, even American negro communities."

"These Zoos were very prevalent in Europe and the US for patrons to go see the exhibitions of people "in their natural habitat". It got worse, certain women from some areas especially Africa were imported just for their figures, and would walk around naked so the paying customers could see their unique curves. It was a humiliated and degrading display that lasted from around the 1850s all the way up until the last one closed in Belgium in 1958."

"American soldiers burn part of a village as well as their victims of the My Lai Massacre in South Vietnam in 1968. The soldiers spent hours raping and murdering up to 500 unarmed civilians. This event was what many considered as the worst event of the Vietnam War, and one of the worst events ever committed by American military personnel. It took over 4 hours for the few soldiers against the carnage to get command to take control of the situation and stop the massacre. A US photographer was there, taking pictures of the bodies and victims of the mass killings. Women were gang raped, then shot and mutilated. It was beyond ugly."

"Continuing on from the previous picture, a small boy shields his younger brother from the horrible events of the My Lai Massacre in 1968. Extremely young children such as the 2 pictured were also murdered and in some cases also mutilated. The US soldiers had all the time in the world to commit these atrocities, as it lasted over 4 hours. The photographer himself protected these 2 children, but their mother and grandmother were victims of the massacre. Only 3 servicemen tried to protect civilians and stop the massacre, out of hundreds. When they tried to expose the massacre, they were disciplined and ostracized. Eventually, it all came out, and afterwards only 26 soldiers would be charged despite up to 200 involved in the incident. However, only 1 would get convicted of anything major and spend 3 and a half years in prison. That's right, for these horrific war crimes, virtually no one was punished."

It's hard to visualize, but he shoved his dick in a pork roast just like the rest of us.

"A man asks for help after some protestors marching for Civil Rights were beaten in Birmingham...in 1965. Despite often marching very peacefully, pro segregation local police or fellow students and civilians would attack anyone association with desegregation movements. Local Southern Whites as well as Whites from the North would join together and march all over the South with blacks to show unity in pushing for desegregation. Sadly, the ugly racism of America often put many protestors in the hospital, or worse, the morgue. The movement would prevail, and eventually the federal government forced all places in the US to not be legally allowed to discriminate against race."

===
"During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The Soviets wanted to put nuclear missiles in Cuba for first strike capabilities against the US in the event of war. Cuba, having gone communist with Castro rising to power, would be blockaded, and a 13 day standoff took place. Interesting note, the US saw the missiles well before they could be fired, and chose not to destroy them. This was a decision John F Kennedy made, against the wishes of virtually every military advisor he had. This allowed the missiles to become operational and also the possibility of half the East Coast to be destroyed. War was averted at the last minute through back door channels that had both countries disarm and remove missiles in key locations (Cuba for the USSR and Turkey for the US)."

"Margaret Thatcher as a chemist in the 1940's."
[RH - That date can't be right.]

"Former confederate soldiers and their families gather in Huntsville, Alabama for a reunion in 1928. The 2 black men on the right were also former confederate soldiers. A handful of blacks actually fought in the Civil War for the South, usually under false pretenses or forced as slaves to do so. Rarely were they armed, and that debate on whether to armed them as the need for more soldiers arose during the war was a major issue in the Confederate government. It would take until the last month of the war for the Confederates to officially allow black soldiers to be armed, but many still served and in a few cases were armed and fought for the South."

PEOPLE NOT LIKE YOU AND ME

Cassandra Peterson was born in Manhattan, Kansas, and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She began her career at age 17 as the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history in the show "Vive Les Girls" at the Dunes Hotel. After receiving advice from "The King" himself, Elvis Presley, she traveled to Europe where she pursued a career as a singer.
And then this...

This girl is doing the zombie walk. Probably high on Spice.
A new drug has taken hold on streets across Europe and North America. Tribes of strangers are staggering around, looking lost and mumbling to passersby before passing out whenever their legs and minds can take no more.
