EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

Driving on a straight flat highway in rural Illinois that looked very much like that, I happened upon a guy so drunk that he swerved not only from lane to lane but off the highway, through a field, then back on the pavement. He was only going about 20 mph but there was no way I could get around him. I drove a hundred yards behind him for miles and miles at basically a walking pace.

The dog was given a bath outdoors for the first time so it shit on the flowers. I taught my puppy to shit behind the shrubbery and he did it for the rest of its life. Even on walks around campus, he would find shrubbery to hide it under.

I will never forget being at the huge cemetery for American troops at Omaha Beach and a busload of high school students got off their tour bus. And even these normally rowdy youngsters fell silent out of respect.

Doctors and health workers march in the eastern Congo town of Butembo on Wednesday, threatening to go on strike indefinitely if workers at the Ebola clinic are attacked again.

Repeated attacks on treatment centers by armed militiamen and community members who think Ebola is a conspiracy against them have hampered the response to the second-deadliest outbreak of the hemorrhagic fever in history. In the latest attack, on a hospital in the city of Butembo, a senior World Health Organization (WHO) epidemiologist from Cameroon was killed and two others wounded last Friday.
