About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

Did anyone else see this when watching s2e4 of Jack Ryan?

If anyone needs me, I'll be watching this all weekend.
Did you notice how their activity has worn a path?

And it seems to be a universal pastime...
^^A3^^

I think that would only encourage pilferage.

The fact that my balcony isn’t facing the street makes it nice and quiet but also makes my speeches to the people rather ineffective.

Is that cartoon from 2002? Who pays fees for using their debit card, anymore?

I'm more annoyed that the writing on the window isn't correct. No one driving by knows what a "KNAB" is. Or are they sitting on the sidewalk?

EXAMPLES OF POOR JUDGEMENT

And that is why he should have left a gap on one side so the stupid bastard would have a way to get out. Then he should have laid the necessary blocks as he exited. It would also forestall that kind of disaster.

Remember when he wanted this removed from the internet?

Do your part.
Donald Trump feels the same way about himself.
^^B6^^

This is a pretty good read.

Boomers getting upset over a term that has been in use since their birth is ridiculous.

And don't bore us with tales of how it used to be.

I got pulled over and my vape was in my cup holder and the trooper was like “You know the news says those things are killing people” I laughed a little bit and said, “ They say the same about y’all.

GET LEARNT

Titi Monkeys mate for life and entwine their tails together when resting.

500-year-old sketches of black Europeans, by German Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer.

The woman was a maid in the home of some Dutch friends of his; nothing is known of the man.  Durer was famous for his realistic pictures, so these are probably very close likenesses of these people.  That's unusual for pictures of ordinary black people from so long ago.

The hood-eyed Akhal Teke horses are an ancient breed originating in Turkmenistan.

They were bred as war mounts. The hooded eyes are the product of a selective breeding effort by armies to intimidate their enemies with horses that looked like dragons. Their coats are uniquely refractive and reflective of light because of the way the proteins are arranged in the hair, making them look metallic, especially in light colors.

Battle Unicorns

I read a book that explained why Africans didn't domesticate the zebra as Europeans and Asians did the horse. The answer is that the zebra would rather die than be dominated. Note that even with modern training methods nobody rides zebras to this day.
But remember what the Russian researchers did with foxes - turning them into gentle pets in only 50 years by mating only the friendliest ones.
Why couldn't someone do that to zebras?

An abandoned McDonalds in remote Alaska.

I have never seen an abandoned McDonalds.

Can you imagine how much work this would be without a computer?

These tracks are the result of the ore wagons hauling silver ore from the Silver King Mine to the Pinal Mill on Queen Creek just west of this location during the late 1870s and early 1880s. The ore wagon road crossed a large deposit of welded volcanic tuff. This type of rock was not too resistant to the metal rims of the old wagon wheels carrying heavy loads of silver ore. The wagon wheels etched two deep ruts across this large deposit of welded volcanic tuff (ash).  Each member of a mule team stepped in the same location as the mule ahead, thus the mule tracks also are visible today.

A family of gorillas in a Japanese zoo reacting to an earthquake.

Its a couple and their two sons, one a baby in the mother's arms.
I could imagine them thinking that they would run far away and then they realized they were locked in.

“The modified cranium of a second juvenile was placed in a helmet-like fashion around the head of the first, such that the primary individual’s face looked through and out of the cranial vault of the second.”
"Perhaps most eerily, the older children’s skulls likely still had flesh when they were outfitted over the infants’ heads. Juvenile skulls “often do not hold together” if they are simply bare bone, the archaeologists note.
According to the paper, the helmets could have been intended to protect the deceased’s “presocial and wild” souls as they navigate the afterlife. Other infants found in the funerary platform were buried with figurines placed near their heads, perhaps for a similar purpose. An alternative theory posits the skull helmets belonged to the infants’ ancestors and were actually worn in both life and death."
