About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

Every movement needs a martyr and now China has one.
A nurse had her eye shot out by riot police.

This is Rupert Hogg, ex-CEO of Cathay Pacific Airlines. He is ex-CEO because Beijing forced him to resign last week. But details have only just emerged in the last day about the badass way he went.

Some of the protesters were Cathay employees. The Chinese Communist Party was not too impressed with this and wanted Hogg to provide a list of names of every Cathay employee who participated in these “illegal protests”.
And he did provide that report. But the list contained his name and his name only.
And thus the CCP wanted his resignation, or else they would deny Cathay all rights to fly into or over China.
We hear so much about scumbag CEOs all the time. At least here is a good one. Other airlines would do well to snap him up.

Bless their hearts.

A chunk of the Amazon rainforest has been ravaged by fires for weeks — and the smoke from the infernos is so intense, it can be seen from space.

THE GOOD

Try to guess what you are looking while scrolling slowly...
I'm assuming it's a show horse.

This delightful fense...
Was knitted by this delightful woman...
What a magnificent skill.
^^A3^^

At first glance I thought it was a humorous mishap, then I observed the well planned offloading technique.

^^A4^^

Why don't we try solutions like that in America?
More on that later.
^^A5^^

Reuben from Meat & Go, Krakow, Poland.
Pastrami, kraut, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, served on grilled rye. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the sandwich was cut after being wrapped in the paper. How very clever. Reenforcing my belief that presentation is half the job in food preparation.
^^A6^^

I had a friend who served in Vietnam and managed to return home relatively normal. He was visiting a family member in a VA hospital when he wandered down a ward where he struck up conversations with some of the vets and discovered many of them wanted haircuts which the VA didn't offer. So later he came back with scissors and combs and offered haircuts to any and all who wanted them.
I asked him where he had learned to cut hair and he told me he had never had a lesson but you learn real quick with on the job training like that.
^^A7^^

To avoid the 19% tax Germany puts on Tampons, somebody made a book (taxed at 7%) which included tampons in it. It sold out on the first day.

THE BAD

A huge munition dump in Russia explodes. Several nearby villages had to be evacuated.
^^B1^^

Hong Kong protests

Be careful what you wish for. It served us well until weapons evolved so that one guy can kill dozens in less than a minute.
More about that later.
^^B2^^

I mean that, my friend. I would take it as a personal affront that you don't want to stick around for tomorrow's Folio Olio. But seriously, a permanent disastrous solution to a temporary problem just seems rather rash to me.
^^B3^^

Clothes and ax belonging to Master Titta, Rome's most famous executioner.

Remember when people thought that killing killers was a deterrent? We know better now. States that rejected capital punishment actually have FEWER murders than states who regularly kill these criminals. But fuck science...the voters know best.
^^B4^^

American soldiers on their way home from World War II, 1945.

After WWI, America did not want to enter another war in Europe...even with the astrosoties, our leaders were aware of.

Liberated Soviet slave laborers being rescued from a cellar after it was locked and set on fire by a German policeman 7th April 1945.
We only acted when we were attacked at Pearl Harbor.
Simply put, all those murdered Jews, Gypsies, Poles, etc were none of our concern. Since then Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc have killed tens of millions and we did nothing because we didn't have a dog in the fight.
And now we do nothing about the mass murders in North Korea.

Going on a rafting trip in China.
 Ain't nature grand!

Every ounce of research I have ever read proves that senseless weekly meetings are counter-productive...yet they persist.

 Useless verbal fillers...
https://i.imgur.com/tlBHDWQ.mp4
My mother demanded that I take two courses in high school- typing and public speaking. Both of those served me well. I can type as fast as I can speak AND I am acutely aware of filler words as: "like", "you know", and all gutturals like er and um.
^^B9^^

^^B10^^

What has happened to America being the leaders in innovation? Countries are using 100% of their trash to power electric generation. Some have their whole country powered by solar or wind. Why are we now the trailing edge in innovation?
^^B11^^

Have you given any thought about the hatred most Americans feel toward members of the other political party other than their own? I am of the opinion that this is exactly what the Russians want. They want us to hate one another. They want to divide us and become separate groups that distrust all others. My question is, are you aiding them?

All that does not mean you can't point out lunacy when you find it.

Jesus Christ! Do those idiots not have Google?!

^^B12^^

But it seems like most people have no problem with more and more of the wealth migrating into fewer and fewer hands.

Can you say oligarchy?

We can do better, America. I don't know all the answers, but I do have questions I would like addressed.

THE HUMOROUS

When I wrote novels I tried to come up with "non-formula" plots. I like movies with truly unique plots also. That was one as was Groundhog Day.
^^C7^^

I have no idea what that means, I just like the phrase "used soap".
^^C8^^

Do you remember when this was a thing in England?
 ^^C9^^

That might be a repost...I just can't remember anymore.

SCIENCE AND THE MERE SCIENCY

He doesn't realize that water weighs about as much as a full-sized car.

The caption read: "WTF is this now?"

This was the first comment: "That's you being placed on a watchlist."
But seriously, what is that? I ran it through an image search to no avail.

Now I'm forced to think about all the roaches, spiders, lizards, and other critters it sucks up.

I bet his family has been doing this, in this way, for a thousand years.
Why do you suppose he holds it up that long? Do you think that maneuver is required to aim it?
