About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

Republican Lindsey Graham SIDES WITH TURKEY AGAINST KURDS

“Thank you so much for calling me, Mr. Minister,” Graham said on the recorded call. “I want to make this a win-win, if we can.”

The conversation is raising alarm bells in light of the push for sanctions against Turkey for their attacks on the Kurds. In a phone call Sunday, Trump was being yelled at by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and he wanted to get off of the phone.
Interestingly, however, Graham mentioned a “Turkish bank case” that the president was interested in. The case involves the Iranian gold trader that has retained Rudy Giuliani as his lawyer.
According to a Bloomberg report Wednesday, Trump allegedly told former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to work with the attorney general and let him off. Any denial about Trump’s interest in the deal has now been blown thanks to Graham’s hoax call.

"Kurdish problem" sounds a lot like "Jewish problem" and I have a feeling they have similar "solutions."

It is estimated that, on average, American children spend nearly 40% of their waking hours Not Gaming. That number is even worse among marginalized communities. I refuse to accept this in the richest country in the world.

FIRST THE GOOD NEWS

I wonder if they do that together every time.
^^C1^^

My city has a new sculpture.

Larsen’s sculpture “3 Seconds and Counting,” reflects the fact that 12,000 bottles, the approximate amount of plastic bottles used, are thrown away in the United States every three seconds.

That is a very big motor.

That image reminded me of a young man who got his dream job working for the government. He used a vehicle very much like this one to drive down the Appalachian Trail and repair anything that needed it.
He hauled a trailer full of tools and other gear.
And get this - he got to take his girlfriend who also loves the outdoors.

Louisville, Kentucky has a fountain in the river and every minute or so it shoots a huge column of water hundreds of feet in the air. My worry that all of the drivers on the bridge were so distracted waiting for the fountain that I was fearful of an accident.

THE BAD NEWS

I know but that look on the guy's face is just too much.

Cell phones have killed even the most basic situational awareness.

Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal drew national headlines when he was allowed to grow a beard and wear a turban on the job to observe his Sikh faith.

The deputy drew praise for going to Puerto Rico after the island was devastated by Hurricane Maria in 2017. He also worked that year with humanitarian relief nonprofit United Sikhs to get truckloads of supplies to first responders after Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas and Louisiana coasts and caused flooding in Houston.
Deputy Dhaliwal pulled over a car on Sept. 27 and spoke with its driver around 1:00 p.m. As Dhaliwal was walking back to his patrol car, the driver he had stopped allegedly got out of his car and shot Dhaliwal in the back of the head.

Not owning your home is a worse deal than ever, too: as private equity takes over the rental market, rents and evictions are skyrocketing, while the safety and quality of rental housing are plummeting.

ENGLISH TEACHER: I'm sure I CAN, yes
LAWYER: Ugh. Please tell the court where you were the night of the murder

ENGLISH TEACHER: Much better. I was killing the victim.

Classic atomic test photo. Ever wondered what the white lines you see here were for?

They are simple smoke columns created by rockets fired just prior to the test.
When the atomic blast's shockwave arrived, they moved the trails. Scientists at observation stations could instantly see the effect of the shockwave, hitting, moving and deforming the smoke columns. They were able to measure the speed of the shockwave, as well as the shape and the pressure in relation to space. See below for detail.

The Briggs-Rauscher reaction, also known as 'the oscillating clock', is one of the most common demonstrations of a chemical oscillator reaction. The reaction begins when three colorless solutions are mixed together.

The color of the resulting mixture will oscillate between clear, amber, and deep blue for about 3-5 minutes. The solution ends up as a blue-black mixture.

Are you one of those people who think that this is a real possibility? Read your bible and you will get lots of examples of people who believed just that.
Can you imagine reading the bible for the first time at age 14? You read the ridiculous story of Adam and Eve and the rib thing and the talking snake, the impossible tale of the Ark, and continue on until you get to the part about eating his body and drinking his blood to prove you love him and if you don't he will torture you for eternity.

Every normal 14 years old would laugh at the plot and plot holes of such a tale.

It's always funnier when it happens to beautiful people.
