About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

PONDERABLES

I would have thought I would have noticed that but I found dozens more and they all have the CDs.
^^A1^^

An amazing photograph.
^^A2^^

After the year we have all had the idea of using a public phone is terrifying. My lips almost touching a mouthpiece where hundreds of other mouths have recently been - I don't think so.
^^A3^^

A sucker born every minute. I once talked to a guy that was all excited about owning "some" Bitcoins. I asked if he wanted to cash them in for real money could he do that. He said I didn't understand and he was exactly spot on in his assessment.
^^A4^^

Do you know who this nice lady is? Think hard.

That's Bezo's ex-wife.
^^A5^^

^^A6^^

Think Patriot Act.
"The USA PATRIOT Act is an Act of the United States Congress that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. USA PATRIOT is a backronym that stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism."
The problem is that their surveillance tools can't tell the difference between a terrorist and...oh...ME!
^^A7^^

Not trying to alarm you, but, 2021 is just around the corner...

I spend so much time leaning on my elbows that they were getting chafed. So I took a pair of thick socks that were much too large and cut the heals out of them. I also cut out a section to make folding my arms easier. Worked like a charm.
My wife said I looked like Mad Max.
^^A8^^

^^A9^^

I have never agreed with anything more in my life.

Mycelium grows fast and is incredibly durable, waterproof, non-toxic, fire-resistant, and biodegradable.

Ross uses it to build bricks by growing mycelium in bags of delicious (to mushrooms) sawdust, before drying them out and cutting them with extremely heavy-duty steel blades.

This works because mushrooms digest cellulose in the sawdust, converting it into chitin, the same fiber that insect exoskeletons are made from.

I've built many a kiln in that shape. You cut a piece of plywood into a square then after standing it up you attach a chain to a top corner. Then you keep adjusting the chain until it touches the bottom and the other corner.
After tracing the chain you cut out the shape and use it as a support for your firebricks.
It's very strong and will last for years.

Americans.

He spent 20 years breeding a super-bee that could survive attacks from mites that kill millions of bees worldwide.

Shit like that makes me sick.
^^A14^^

A cancer cell slashed open by an Ion beam (one-time crossword answer).

"Imagine cutting an apple in half and looking at its core – that is a little like what has happened to this metastatic melanoma cell. Nick Moser and Chris Bakal used an ion beam to blast away part of the cell, a technique known as ion-beam milling."

The triangular shape was caused by the angle of the beam as it cut into the cell and the silica substrate it is growing on, creating the illusion of depth. The method allows researchers to see inside cancerous cells in unprecedented detail and understand what is going on internally.

As melanoma cells attach to surfaces using structures called focal adhesions, removing part of the cell lets them see what happens when these structures form. The spread of cancers around the body is the primary cause of death from the diseases, so understanding how such cells attach to tissues is vital to cutting death rates."

I just read that air fryers are Easy Bake Ovens for adults and now I need to have one.

PLACES I WILL NEVER VISIT

^^B1^^

I think we can safely assume that is colored LED lights and not a real fire but it's still unsettling.
^^B2^^

"It was like that when I got here."

^^B3^^

The internet has ruined me.
^^B4^^

Helmcken Falls, British Columbia

^^B5^^

The Black Forest
It looks so quiet...except for the whine of that damn drone.
^^B6^^

Vampirella Lateritia

^^B7^^

I would want to watch Titanic or Waterworld.
^^B8^^

Pillars of light were spotted in the sky over Russia, a rare phenomenon caused by frost and columnar ice crystals suspended in the air.

^^B9^^

"Can I park here?"

^^B10^^

One of those roads led right through the German town of Trier - where I hung out.
In the 60s they allowed traffic through there. It bummed me out that all of the ancient walls had gouges from countless rearview mirror scrapes.
^^B11^^

Do you suppose they just scoop some out with their toothbrush?

Notice that the woman next to the man realizes what is happening and could have reacted faster but instead, she just points out the danger and does nothing.

"Attention! Attention! This here kitchen is closed."

RIP: The man who bent light.

Narinder Singh Kapany, inventor of fiber optics. In 1953, he designed, manufactured a glass wire capable of transporting light, which he later coined fiber optics, an invention that has transformed all our lives.

Dear Ralph. I don't agree with any of your politics, though I do enjoy your blog. One observation I must make. The Democrats will change nothing as regards a [free] National Health Service. To support them on the basis of their attitude to health policy seems insane to me. They are every bit as corrupt and wrong headed as the Republicans. Mike

the fourth is the odd one, since it is not a fruit.
Pineapple, banana, kiwifruit, potato

The unscrambled words to the puzzle are:

PINEAPPLE
BANANA
KIWIFRUIT
POTATO

Potato would seem to be least like the others as it is a vegetable.

Puzzle:..

First three are fruits, but a potato is a vegetable.
