Do you recognize this man?
He is the barely known actor from the movie "Green Mile.
He also had a bit part in the TV show "Lost".
He is 51 years old now. This is his fiance....a 16 year-old beauty queen. It was reported, her parents are thrilled.
...and from the look on his face, so he too is thrilled.
I want the dream he's having....
I listened to a very interesting lecture on Ted.com the other day. It was about the power of smiling. Among other things I learned that babies smile in the womb. Smiling is a stress and/or pain reliever AND it doesn't matter if the smile is faked or not. A smile displays confidence and makes you more approachable and trustworthy.
The researcher took every baseball card issued for two decades. (I forget which decades, but it had to be a long time ago...read on) He broke the pictures down into three groups: non-smilers, smilers, and beamers. He then followed up each group of men and found that the average age of death for the non-smilers was about 72; smilers 75; and beamers 79.
He said that children smile about 400 times a day, whereas adults smile about 40 times a day.
I don't want to brag, but I told my bartender this story and we smiled 40 times in that one conversation.
NOTE: I smelled a rat in the research right away and my bartender agreed. I suggest that the non-smiling baseball players may have been suffering from depression, which would contribute to a shortened lifespan. Further, they may have been hungover from alcoholism. Or pissed off that the photo session was keeping him away from his heroin. You see my point.
