CHRONIC UNDERACHIEVEMENT SYNDROME

Heard a lecture by a scientist studying people who want to have a completely healthy limb cut off. When discussing possible explanations he said:
"There's one called, by the way, Chronic Underachievement Syndrome, which in my day used to be called stupidity.

Let's face it, we all start off pretty damn stupid. That's why adults like to fuck with children at every opportunity....it's just so easy....

We learn not to be stupid over time, then we do stupid shit ON PURPOSE!

Most of our worse decisions can be blamed on peer pressure. Everyone (most everyone) wants to "fit in" with a group, and if you hang around people who do stupid shit, then you will also...

Youth in Russia have begun trying to outdo their peers in climbing to the most dangerous heights because they are just fucking stupid....

There is a difference between stupidity and ignorance of the risk.

My brother and his friends (and me and my friends) once went into a crowded movie theater and he lit a cigarette (it was legal back then) and placed it on the floor. He then laid a cluster of firecrackers with the fuse on the cigarette far enough from the smoldering end to give us time to get out of the theater before the bedlam began.

What we thought was fun could have resulted in a stampede that could have killed people, but we were not that smart. 

Nowadays people do the stupidest things just to get a video on YouTube....

Just about everywhere I drive I have to pass through the university campus. Recently normal unstupid people walk directly into traffic in front of cars while staring down at their devices. Yes, that is stupid.

But I guess the gene pool could use a little chlorine.


Old people do stupid stuff, but due to Geriatric Immunity, they can't be blamed... 

Sometimes it only takes a moments lapse of attention to demonstrate to the world just how stupid you really are...

Ignoring warning signs that are 100% dire is stupid...

Sometimes great amounts of money are spent to make you stupid...

Not that marijuana smokers are immune to stupidity...

Some things look stupid, but have perfectly normal explanations. Try to explain this logically.

The way I read it, the guy has a bad back (like me) and needed a place to sit. He also is calling someone who would block his call, so he used the pay phone.

I don't think this man is stupid. He's just having harmless fun.

This looks stupid, but she may be performing some kind of experiment involving rabbit odors. 

Many times people do stupid things because their grand kids ask them to......or he lost a bet....

Some stupidity should not be ignored by bystanders. Who the fuck ever took this picture should have stop this, period.

Sometimes people do stupid things because they have not been given adequate instructions....

I, being human, have been lured very, very close to doing something stupid just because it might me my last chance to do it.....

I find the whole fashion/uniform thing stupid. I remember when there was a news clip of Michael Jordan practicing on a court and one of the elastics of his sweat pants had broken and one leg was up and one was down. Within 24 hours every young black guy in America were wearing sweat pants in the exact configuration even though they had no wardrobe malfunction...

When writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen.


Sometimes people do stupid stuff just to prove they fucking can....

I think that alcohol causes more stupidity than any other factor....

A sober man would never do this....

Governments are not immune to stupidity...

I think people have a gene or some such shit that makes them want to convince otherwise smart people to believe stupid shit....
