Gaza...before and after...
Head of Palestinian group said that none of the concrete and rebar that Israel donated to Gaza was used in the tunnels, ascerting that it had all been smuggled in from Egypt. Laughable.

From an excellent article I read about groupthink...
"You’ve likely noticed over the years
that people often tend to adhere to norms of behavior they internally don’t
agree with. When you display an attitude that matches the attitude of the
majority, even though you disagree with the implications of that attitude, you
might be in what psychologists call a state of pluralistic ignorance - a state,
by definition, shared by many others. Pluralistic ignorance is the erroneous
belief that the majority is acting in a way that matches its internal
philosophies, and that you are one of a small number of people who feel
differently, when in reality the majority agrees with you on the inside but is
afraid to admit it outright or imply such through its behavior."
And here is the link in case you pine to be less stupid...

About those trees in Gaza: I'm guessing it was an olive grove. Israel has cut down thousands of them, some of them hundreds of years old. It is one of Palestinians main sources of income, but more than that, the trees have a strong symbolic meaning since it represents their ties to the land (many of them were planted by their grandparents, etc.)

I have no proof for this theory, but I was beginning to suspect that the images were reversed. Relatively barren land then settled, built upon and planted with crops.
But I could be wrong.....of course.
Google why California has more coastline than Texas but fewer water desalination plants and more drought....environmentalists
Also you make a great point about the no yard thing and plant trees that would be wonderful. It won't work in certain parts of the country. ie Wyoming, the Dakota's, Montana. Not enough annual rainfall to support such foliage
