About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

TUESDAY #2309

One Of My Very Own...

When people learn bad stuff about someone else, it’s stickier than good stuff. People pay closer attention to the bad stuff, reflect on it more, remember it longer, and weigh it more heavily in assessing the person overall. This pattern is so robust that researchers who study how we perceive one another have a label for it—'positive-negative asymmetry."

A audit of U.S. military spending in Afghanistan "has revealed that a whopping $45 billion is unaccounted for."

Could anybody explain this to me:

USA Women's Soccer, #17 Tobin Heath went to school with my very favorite bartender, and the other day it was really fun to watch her for the whole game. It's like having a family pet in the dog fight. Anyway, she's a mid-fielder if you want to cheer along with me.

Nude model in the middle of twelve art students...
Very clever view from all the views...

What better way to remember your dearly departed loved one than to put their name on a bullet with "Dad 44 Magnum Bullet Stainless Steel Cremation Jewelry."

I find it interesting that the number one reason for not getting cremated was that a bunch of people thought that they would actually need their body in the afterlife. Aside from the obvious illogic of the "useful" body being reduced to bones within months, I find it interesting that the stone had to be rolled away from the tomb so Jesus could float up in the sky. Not only that, but an angel did it for him. How extraordinary that moving the rock would also be absolutely necessary if his followers stole the body to fake his coming back to life.

The Terraced Hills in Vietnam...

Making mountains productive is very difficult, but it can be done.
The solar farm of the Colle des Mees, the biggest in France, consists of 112,780 solar modules, representing 200 megawatts of power.

But it doesn't look as though they rotate to better face the moving sun...
Anybody know anything about that?

When people ask me why I didn't have that wonderful random button sooner...
I clicked it the other day and ran across these two gems...

Girlfriend pissing you off? Just text her “He’s busy.” Then turn your phone off.

Ball fired from a cannon at 60mph, from a truck going 60mph...

I might add that you have to nail it to get that effect.

Curiouser and curiouser.

In the end it will be him and the cockroaches...and water bears.

Italian Helmet from 1543

 Those zany Italians.

Arrested for same crime, in newspaper white suspects get yearbook photos, black suspects get mugshots

The explanation my just be that the black suspects weren't in school.

I got an email in the Folio Olio account from this nice lady...
I, of all people, was contacted by a foot model. Oh, my.

Second date tip: repeat everything you said on the first date, word for word.

We've long known that children from affluent families get a head start that can translate into a long-lasting advantage, especially when it comes to academic achievement. Now, scientists have found what may be part of the explanation: Children who grow up in higher-income families appear to have larger brains.

The brain of the kid whose family makes less than $25,000 is about 6 percent smaller in surface area than the kid whose family made $150,000.

I wonder how much money Albert's family made.

Watched a movie last night...
Recognize the art on the wall? It's an aerial view of land with center-bore irrigation...a thing I have stated many times would make wonderful art....now somebody did.

What a wonderful attitude...

This guy hiked from Mexico to Canada, taking a selfie every mile. Enjoy the journey alongside him.

All I did was watch his beards.

Three new pencil lead things...

War is God's way of teaching Americans geography. Homophobia is God's way of teaching us the names of Republican governors.

My greatest achievement was teaching my daughter to love reading.

How to skew statistics: No wonder such a small percentage of Rap stars die of cancer if over half of them are murdered.

Master of Architectural Illusion...

Arts & Architecture, Beomsik Won.
I'm very good at architectural illusion...but I'm not that good.

Tarantino likes profiles...

I know I’ve had enough coffee when I can hear my cells dividing.

A moving sculpture...
It's amazing how many people seem not to even notice.

"Are you watching porn again?"
"No way! This is an episode of 'How It's Made' about people."

I asked my friend how stoned he was...

That's what he said...
