About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

FRIDAY #2576

One Of My Very Own…

>
Physicists in the Netherlands managed to entangle two electrons almost a mile apart—and they say they’ve ruled out all of the loopholes which made earlier experiments inconclusive. And while it all may sound pie-in-the-sky, scientists say that the research could eventually lead to the development of ultra-fast “quantum computers,” with potentially game-changing applications in medicine, cryptography, and artificial intelligence.

April 25, 1983: Samantha Smith invited to visit USSR. The 9-year-old girl was worried about a war, so she wrote directly to Yuri Andropov to ask him about his intentions. In return, she received a letter emphasizing the USSR's desire for peace, and an invitation to visit the country. She spent 2 weeks there with her parents, and wrote a book about her experiences when she returned home. Sadly, Samantha was killed in a plane crash two years later.

Nobody comes back from war the same person who left.

Fake Rooftop Towns of WWII

Believe it or not, these women are standing on top of a B-17 bomber factory in Seattle, Washington in 1941. These fake towns were designed by Hollywood set designers, made with stage props, and "inhabited" by actors.

"So, what did you do during the war, grandma?"
"I lounged around on a roof in a bathing suit to fool any spies."

Lots of work, but oh so worth it.

You really only understand how drunk you are when you’re peeing.

Just trying to be helpful...

We may pretend that we’re basically moral people who make mistakes, but the whole of history proves otherwise.

I have a thing about stories.
If you have a good memory, there is a true story to teach just about any lesson. I will admit, I love telling stories.

Somebody just did this...

Mesmerizing Video of Crowd Control at a Comic Convention

Twice a year, Tokyo hosts Comiket--one of the largest fandom conventions in the world. On December 29 of this year, 150,000 people attended. On the 30th, 170,000 people showed up. That's a lot of human bodies to move around. Managing crowd control safely on this scale is a refined science that looks like an artform when properly performed.
I couldn't take my eyes off that. Amazing.

Humans and their good intentions...

Parenting is like being a juggler except all the balls are screaming.

 This is how you sandbag.

I don't think it is the sandbags so much as the miles of sheet plastic it would take. The sandbags are just to hold the plastic in place.

Young men are always thinking...
If you don't know what that is, ask you son.

A telescope, under construction in the mountains of China's Pingtang county, is set to be the largest in the world

Shit like that fascinates me.

When my wife goes outside to investigate a strange noise, how long do I have to wait before un-pausing the show we were watching?

To err is human.

And...

(Customer fills out search card: 16 Chapels)
(me) Oh, you're after books on European Churches?
No, just books about the 16 Chapels.
16 Chapels?
Yea, you know the one with the big painting on the ceiling.

Former Bricklayer, Johnny Clasper, Turns Stones Into Works Of Art

The way I love stone I would be sorely tested not to suck that guy's dick.

"The DNA Repair Enzyme is a molecule, it's a complex molecule, that travels like a little motor boat, up and down the DNA molecule. It finds errors, snips them out, corrects them and puts the right thing back in there - this is the ultimate wisdom of the body."

I personally think that if men could suck their own dick, then there would be no war. We wouldn’t have time for such non-sense.

PLEASE READ THIS
It’s call civil-asset forfeiture and you really, really need to learn more about it. In a nutshell, the police can take…well, whatever the fuck they want…without  criminal charge much less a guilty verdict. That means your house, car, cash…anything they want, and the local police split the take with the feds. In some places the profit from such practices covers the majority of the budget of the police department. So in 2015 a threshold was crossed; the value of property seized by your government now exceeds the value of property taken by NON-GOVERNMENTAL BURGLARS. This sickens me. And yet we (you and me) do nothing because “It’s somebody else’s problem.” Some think, “Well, those people MUST have done something wrong.” Well, probably most of them did, in fact break the law, but there are thousands of people who broke no law but still lost their cars, cash, houses and/or businesses. Please do a little research on this issue, then it will sicken you also.
