About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

KEY PACKET TUTORIAL
http://folioolio.blogspot.com/2015/07/key-packet-tutorial.html

A guy showed me this at the bar yesterday. We got to talking about how we never stop to help another driver any more. Then we both confessed that we don't even help a black person jump start their car in a parking lot.
I got to thinking about whether that was racist or just prudent. Maybe where you life black people don't commit almost all the crimes, but the arrest reports in my city are pretty clear on the matter, so don't judge me for using my knowledge to increase my odds of surviving.

And then there's these two headline: Same event, two takes...

Nobody goes to that restaurant because it's always so crowded.

All the Medalists of the Olympic Games 100-Meter Sprint since Athens 1896

I watched a documentary on that very thing, and it was explained that there were noticeable jumps, plateaus if you will. This can be explained by better shoes being introduced, and better and better running surfaces, and things like scientific diets and coaching. I would also include sports psychology.

Amazing.

Some guy who seemed to know wrote: Just watch any event in Brazil, and you'll see they're assholes to anyone not Brazilian.

Hell, I could do that.

I know that kids of divorce can have it rough, but one time I found three (3) dirty towels on the bathroom floor after my daughter had gone to bed.

I stayed up until 2am then went in her room, woke her up and escorted her to the bathroom to hang them up. She never left another towel on the floor.

PEOPLE LIVING ELSEWHERE

I like being reminded, from time to time, of things I really enjoyed years ago. This is one of them.

That transition from thrown bone to space ship was wonderful. I, however, did not like the ending. Purposely confusing people is not my idea of entertainment.

Perhaps the most impressive image taken by the Cassini spacecraft.

Perhaps the most beautiful photograph ever taken.
This was taken back in 2006 as the spacecraft drifted into the shadow of Saturn. The sun is hidden directly behind the planet. Earth also appears as a small dot near the upper left side of the brightest rings.

A 5000-year-old rock carving in Norway which depicts a figure on skis has been "damaged forever" by youths who claim they were trying to improve it.

The two alleged vandals said they had been trying to repair the historical site by carving over the outline of the figure to make it easier to see – but local officials described their makeshift restoration as a "tragedy" for Norway's cultural heritage.

ANIMALS

There are so many things in this world that I've never seen in person. This baby swordfish is one of them.
Finally found an image of that sidewalk I've mentioned several times. Migrating baby frogs tried to cross wet concrete.

But the one I saw didn't have one, it had hundreds in every conceivable pose.
