About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

One Of My Very Own

Might want to check that phrasing.

In the middle of a global pandemic with millions of human lives on the line, can you PLEASE stop those commercials every five minutes showing me suffering animals that desperately need my 19 fucking dollars a month. PLEASE!

You: Say something good about 2020.
Me: Haven’t been invited to a single wedding this year.

That could have gone South very quickly.

What if there had been a toddler in the yard? You MUST have control over your dog!

What happens next?
A. She straddles it.
B. She falls off the log.
C. She freezes and has to be carried across.
D. She makes it to the far bank.
D. She makes it to the far bank.
I hope you didn't give up on that too soon.

🎶 I've got hiiiiiiigh hopes...🎶

Imagine you were born in 1900.
When you're 14, World War I begins and ends when you're 18 with 22 million dead.
Soon after a global pandemic, the Spanish Flu, appears, killing 50 million people. And you're alive and 20 years old.
When you're 29 you survive the global economic crisis that started with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment, and famine.
When you're 33 years old the nazis come to power.
When you're 39, World War II begins and ends when you're 45 years old with a 60 million dead. In the Holocaust, 6 million Jews die.
When you're 52, the Korean War begins.
When you're 64, the Vietnam War begins and ends when you're 75.

And yet we learned nothing.

Despite popular opinion, you can eat fire. You just can’t eat it twice.

What kind of physics is going on there?

It's called Kintsugi and it is truly beautiful.

Archaeologist Spends Over 35 Years Building Enormous Scale Model of Ancient Rome

At the National Gallery in Washington, DC I saw many wooden models of famous buildings made in the Renaissance.
I could have stayed there all day.

This young woman has created her first family heirloom. I make a lot of family heirlooms.

Is that some sort of trickery?

The roots must run down the inside walls.

How wonderful.

Looks like a lawnmower, but it actually flies using the Magnus effect, the same phenomenon that makes a curveball work in baseball.
Is it motorized?

 That little head toss.
