About Me

I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

THINK ABOUTS

I feel so sorry for all those well-meaning bright young people who have to put themselves decades in debt just to improve themselves. Especially when every country - except ours - knows that a well-educated citizenry is their most valuable resource.

Think about how easy and simple a 24-hour clock would be. No more AM/PM. It's the easiest solution to the time problem like the metric system is the easiest solution to the weights and measures problem. But such ideas are rejected for the bane of humanity - "But we've always done it this way."
^^A8^^

It's just about where you draw the line. Every American thinks free 1-12 grade schooling is a good idea. But because "we've always done it this way" people reject moving the boundaries a bit. Why start at 6 years old and not, say, 4? And why stop at high school and not college?

I try to do just that every single day.

The plot of the series revolves around a secret cabal of investors who bought bitcoin when the price was in the single digits and now, in the present day — after something like 6000% growth over a decade or so — collectively holds enough of the world's available bitcoin wealth to actually manipulate the market. Each one will eventually get his own erotic book; so far there are two, with a third being teased in the Kindle store.

A5 - It always amazes me that the global warming activists have no idea how the CO2 cycle works with plants and that their desire to eliminate / reduce CO2 (below 180 PPM level) will make the environment incapable of supporting plant life. Yet they scream FOLLOW THE SCIENCE!!! Science proves that plant life ( and there by animal life) thrives with CO2 levels as high as 400 - 500 PPM, most green house operators will pump CO2 into the area to boost plant growth. But why listen to the science when you can be led by a high school drop out.

Dear A5 Anon, You don't even understand the problem.

Dear Ralph,
Spoken in the true cultist manner, no data just accusations let me see if I can surmise the issue for you. There are 7 billion people on a planet that can sustain 7 billion people at best and about 4.5 billion at worst.
About 6.5 billion people could care less about global pollution / warming and are more concerned with where their next meal is going to come from and staying safe in a harsh world. 3 billion of these live in China and India both of which thumb their noses at any effort to clean things up. China alone is the largest producer of pollutants in the world. Approximately another 3 billion people live in various 3rd world countries that struggle to grow crops and live a minimalistic existence. Of the remaining billion people who live in developed nations some make an effort but most expect the 325 million people of the United States to bear the burden of cleaning up the mess for the remaining 6.7 billion people.
To top all this off the whole global warming cult is led by elitists like Al Gore who uses more carbon fuel generated energy in his home in one hour than a single family in a 3rd world country would in an entire year. All while telling you and me and the rest of the peasants that we should stop using the very energy sources they are burning through without a thought. I think I know the problem.

Dear Climat Change Anon, So other counties are worse, people you hate wastes energy, and most people don't care...ergo we do nothing? Please explain what you think our response should be.

Ralph, I think what is implicit in "Climate Change Anon's" argument is that, since folks like you and the general public base your sense of priority about the climate on public "authorities" such as "internet inventor," Al Gore, and basic mainstream news, you should take a moment to question the substance of those beliefs to begin with. When the interests who push for specific causes, no matter what they might be, you might want to pause and consider of there are ulterior motives.

In fairness we need not be immediately dismissive of folks like Al Gore, either. It doesn't mean he's wrong. But we have to actively look beyond compromised sources and actively challenge our beliefs. Consider the works of Patrick Moore (formerly of Greenpeace) and Bjorn Lomborg.

Your reluctance to even consider the alternative view is not unlike religious fervor to the ideology.

I often used to wonder how some infamous cult leaders were able to have fleets of luxury vehicles while preaching renunciation of materialism from their members who gave up all their money to the cult. People who become fundamentally enraptured with an ideal will jump though incredible hoops to protect that ideal just because they are invested to the core of their identity.
