About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH US?

^^A1^^

In America, much of the health insurance we do have is crap. Their primary job is to pay out as little money as possible.

Need an example of healthcare insensitivity?

Now healthcare has been weaponized...

World’s Loneliest Orca Has Been Living Alone in a Concrete Tank for Over 10 Years

Kiska, the last living killer whale at the Marineland marine park, has been dubbed the world’s loneliest orca after it was revealed that she has spent the last 10 years of her life alone in a concrete tank, with little to no stimulation. Orcas, dolphins, and whales are among the world’s most intelligent animals; they are social creatures that require a lot of interaction and stimulation which those raised in captivity, unfortunately, don’t receive enough of. In one extreme case, a lonely orca that has spent most of her life in captivity and the last decade completely alone in a concrete tank, at a marine park in Ontario, Canada has been showing signs of extreme distress, like floating listlessly and banging her head against the sides of her enclosure.

*Incarcerating animals sickens me.

And after that show of humanity, we kept it locked up.
Is the primary purpose of higher primates to entertain humans?

These people lie every time they open their mouths because they know their followers won't fact-check them.

^^A7^^

Indeed.

Accidently called a PowerPoint presentation a PowerPoint presentation instead of a slide deck and now everyone in this meeting knows I’m 40.

JUST THE FACTS, MA'AM

Rotary Rocket Roton ATV with rotary blades powered by tip jets, testing in 1999.

Initially, during launch, the rotors would get it as high as they could, and then rockets would take over. Rotors could also be used for landing.

The World’s Oldest Grape Vine Has Been Around For Nearly 500 Years

The Slovenian city of Maribor is home to the world’s oldest grapevine still producing fruit, a resilient plant that dates back to the year 1570 when the city was facing an Ottoman invasion. The Old Vine is the only plant in the world with its own dedicated museum, the Old Vine House, once part of the city wall. It grows on the side of this historic building and still produces an annual harvest of around 35 to 55 kg of grapes, enough to produce 15 to 35 liters of wine, which is bottled in special 2.5 dl bottles designed by famous artist Oskar Kogoj. Only about 100 bottles are produced every year, most of which are used as a special protocol gift. The Old Vine bears grapes of the “Žametovka” or “Modra kavčina” variety, one of the oldest domesticated noble vines in Slovenia.

Kynam – The World’s Rarest, Most Expensive Wood

When you think of the rarest, most precious materials on Earth, things like diamonds, platinum, or gold probably pop into your head, but did you know that a special type of wood is actually more expensive than any of those? Kynam, or “kyara” as it’s known in Japan, is an extremely rare type of agarwood used in the perfume and incense industries for its complex and very strong fragrance. It is the most sought-after type of “oud”, the name used in the Arab peninsula to describe the dark resinous wood produced in the heartwood of the aquilaria tree, in specific circumstances. A single gram of kynam can fetch well over $10,000, making it by far the most expensive wooden on the planet, and also one of the most expensive natural materials.

Using the Hubble Space Telescope, a team of astronomers has been monitoring the Great Red Spot for over a decade. They discovered that the wind speed of the outermost edge of the storm, known as the high-speed ring, has picked up speed by eight percent between 2009 and 2020. Winds now top 400 miles per hour.

Benedict Cumberbatch sounds like the fake name someone called Ben would give when he realized halfway through that giving his real name would be a bad idea.

Bartek Ostalowski – The World’s Only Armless Professional Sports Driver

Despite losing both arms in a tragic accident, a motorsports enthusiast has managed to pursue his passion by using his feet to drive cars and even competing against able-bodied drivers in drifting competitions. Bartek Ostalowski lost both his arms in a motorcycle accident in 2006, but that wasn’t enough to kill his dream of one day becoming a professional racecar driver. Finding himself armless at just 20-years-old and faced with the daunting task of learning to drive a car on a race circuit must have been quite the shock for Bartek, but he mustered the courage and the drive to push on, and in three years he became a master of maneuvering a racecar with his feet. Today, Bartek Ostalowski is the world’s only professional sport driver who drives using his feet.

And to think that some guy sitting at a desk, smoking cigarettes, and drinking wine just created that whole scenario in his mind.

World’s Hottest Shot – Overproof Rum Infused With Carolina Reaper Peppers

"When it comes to “spicy” liquor, you’ll have a tough time finding something hotter than this crazy combination of overproof rum infused with the world’s hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper. The World’s Hottest Shot comes in a deceptively small and harmless-looking 45ml bottle that you can just pour in a shot glass and gulp in one go. But before you do that, you should know that this is no ordinary drink. Not only is the rum overproof (over 63% alcohol by volume), but it also has been infused with Carolina Reaper peppers for at least three months. The result is a barely stomachable concoction that is almost guaranteed to make you gag, sweat, and scream in agony as you wait for the fire inside you to stop burning."

That reminds me of a guy I took hunting who had never been hunting before. He declared that his .22 was more lethal than my 12 gauge because the slug was bigger. I just pointed the barrel of the 12 gauge at a wrist-sized tree and blew it clean off the stump. Discussion over.
