This is what a cross-section of wood from the 1950s looks like compared with a cross-section of wood from today:
The modern wood is on top - the 1950s wood is on the bottom.

It occurs to me that when the ice gets close enough to shore for one of them to jump his action will just push the ice farther away from shore.
I have mentioned before the problems with having spectators so close to the riders.
It seems rather likely that someone with a lot of money bet on one rider would be highly motivated to sabotage another rider.
Look closely...

Making something funny is actually very difficult.
Most of the time humor involves something unexpected.
With my OOMVO I often try to hook up a comment with an image it really doesn't belong to.
Here's another example of the same thing.

Item B6:
At first glance, yeah it looks like the door is totally messed up. However I suspect the image may be somewhat deceptive visually. The door frame appears to be parallel to other elements (vertical wall corners, the floor, signs, whiteboard, etc) while the brown acoustic panels appear to be installed off plumb. The panels appear tilted slightly rightward as compared to the vertical structural elements and signage. They also appear custom made to match the weird angle - take note of the hole patterns. Perhaps an askew panel mounting was an aesthetic or other design choice?
As for today's Puzzle Time entry, I see two possible solutions. In the order I thunk 'em:,
1] Remove the vertical matchstick from the plus sign and place it diagonally upon the equal sign. The plus becomes a minus, and the equal becomes an inequal sign. 2 - 5 ≠ 5
2] Within the leftmost "5" digit, move the left side vertical matchstick to the right side, changing that "5" to a "3". 2 + 3 = 5
No, they can't all be gems, but I for one appreciate your efforts.

A12; why keep supporting Ukraine? Russia has a defensible case, and Biden is on the make.
Dear Mike, NOTHING Ukraine could have done justifies the constant shelling of civilians and other war crimes.

regarding tree rings in ^A5^
Spruce/Fir trees (which make up the preponderance of framing lumber, including 2X4'sin your picture, naturally replenish a forest after clear cutting. It's really quite amazing; you can see the small seedlings, sprouting from seed cones on the forest floor. But they never "grow up" into trees - they need at least 50% light to grow. But when clear cut (or fire or...), they immediately start growing into trees. In fact, they grow so thick, that they choke out each other. The result of this is slow growth year to year because they are all competing for food and light and are only inches apart. Hence narrow annual rings.
When a professionally managed forest is harvested for lumber abdwood pulp, they allow the clear cut to naturally rejuvenate until a certain age (I seem to think it is 10 years),Then foresters in these managed forests go through with saws that look a lot like weedwhackers and cut most of them down, leaving a number of more spaciously spaced tress to flourish. This is called "pre commercial thinning." The result is that with less competition, the trees now grow more vigirously, going taller and fatter more quickly, and becoming a much healthier tree (and forest).
What you are looking at in the picture is the difference between unmanaged and managed forests.
A5 fair point Fardygardy. However we don’t know if those 2 samples are even the same species, what altitude, latitude or soil conditions etc they were grown in. The more modern sample is clearly from nearer the Centre of the tree where growth rings are more widely spaced. The caption might just as well have said “Look! 2 lumps of wood”.
