About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

I found a strange piece of plastic on the floor that looks like it broke off of something but I have no idea what. Better save it in the junk drawer until I die.

I hate when Walmart doesn't have what I need and I have to go home, change out of my pajamas, and take a shower so I can go to Target.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the only movie in the Rocky series that doesn't feature Sylvester Stallone.

Organ Playing

One of the last funerals I attended had the dead guy's favorite rock music play on an organ. It was on tape and come to find out you can rent damn near any song played on an organ for funerals.

If you want to increase voter turn out then make election day a national holiday.

D11: Pennsylvania is, I believe, the 24th US state to implement (or plan implementation) of an automatic voter regestration scheme similar to PA's. Good for them, and only 26 more to go. Unfortunately, there remain some regressive political factions intent on blocking automatic registration wherever possible, and who will repeal it given the opportunity.

I welcome the sentiment of a national voting holiday designation, and it would certainly help. However, a holiday would be largely symbolic. Consider the multitude of businesses, institutions, services, etc. that operate during declared holidays, and thus require their employees to work. Rather than, or in addition to, a holiday designation, mandatory paid time off expressly for voting would be much more effective in enabling improved voter turn-out. Perhaps most equitable and efficient would be a 4-hour window that wholly overlaps the polling times in the voter's home district.

Puzzle. Time: Move the two horizontal match sticks in the zero to the left of the five.
Then turn the puzzle upside down and read it.

Sensor sensitivity checking on a Hydraulic trimming machine.
The hand breaks a beam of light which is picked up by and optical sensor which initiates the safety mechanism.

The person in this video is not putting their hand under the blade. They are putting their hand to the left of the blade where there is no risk of injury, as can be seen in the link below:

What, voting day is not a holiday?

Here everything shuts down, it's quieter than a Sunday.

WTF, you guys don't get paid for public holidays? You probably don't get paid for sickleave either? How about compassionate leave when somebody dies?
A 4hr window, when I went away for a weekend I called my manager saying 'I'm gonna leave at 12 on Friday for a weekend away', the response was 'oh cool I hope have an awesome time, thanks for letting me know. PS please sign a leave form for the day just incase you're in an accidentt so the company is not liable should sommething happen, we won't submit the leave form unless something goes bad. Have a nice weekend!
