I've been on the internet since before it became a public thing for consumers, back when it was still limited to universities, research organisation and a few schools. I still recall with fondness sitting in the computer lab at varsity late in the afternoon when the US just started class in the morning, I was on freenet/IRC and school teachers would ask me if I would be willing to answer questions about my country/life from the students. It was cordial, polite, respectful and an awesome experience answering question from the teacher and kids. The same goes for adults from universities. The internet was a much kinder civilised place in those days.
I've always looked up to the US and admired it, so much so that I almost moved there in 1998.
What happened to the US, there seems to be no discourse, just shouting and screaming? Nobody wants to listen and have a civilised, mature honest conversation any more. It seems to be all antagonistic, there's no manners, common decency, respect or decorum.

I posted this little squeal as I believe the poster is from the US, simply based on my long internet experience. In case you are wondering, no I don't hate Americans as the vast majority come across as awesome people but something has gone really bad over the years.
