Dear Ralph,

Could you please elaborate more on the sins of Ukraine that you were informed about (maybe it has been done in comments and I missed it). I know that some Ukrainians masturbate or don't wash their hands after peeing. =) But i wonder, is it something that justifies Rashism (neo-fascism ideology of modern Russia)? Because the Russian flag and the "Z" sign on the photo are the symbols of that Rashism. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashism

The photo and the text under it together are making an impression that Ukrainian sins provoked Russia to become a neo-fascist state.

If there are such sins then I believe they should be openly discussed, especially on such blog as this one, where we speak openly on many sensitive topics. Because the majority of the world population seem to be unaware of such sins and shading some light on the matter would make us stronger as a community.

Cheers,
Borys

Dear Borys, As I understand it, the sins include the way the Russian-speaking Ukrainians were treated when they tried to secede and join Russia. To be clear - I HAVE DONE NO RESEARCH. Let me know anything you learn.

Dear Ralph, I have nothing to share as I don't know what we are talking about. I wanted to learn myself more evidence from you, so that we could research on them together as the community of this blog readers (there are lots of smart and open minded-people here, if they can tolerate your humour ;-) ).

In the end I'm a Ukrainian and I witness things with my own eyes, but still I can be biassed. So I rely on verifiable evidence, reproducible investigation and collective wisdom.

Scientific approach is about bringing up and shedding more light on things that you don't know.

Dearest Borys, I know this sounds like a cop-out, but I have been so busy working on my latest art project that I can barely get a blog out every day much less do research of any kind. Sorry, but it can't be helped.
I ask you, sir, before the war started, did you ever hear of any atrocities committed by right-wing Ukrainian paramilitary organizations in the Eastern Providences because the Russian-speaking Ukrainians wanted to join Russia?
I detest Putin. If he is not tried for war crimes I will be greatly disappointed...to say the least. I have donated money to Ukrainian relief. I support America arming you guys to the teeth - even more than previously. If I were younger I would think seriously about joining the fight.
I wish you nothing but the best.

Dear Ralph, I haven't encountered such cases by myself nor any of the people I know have. But I've heard of such cases of "suppressing Russian-speaking population" from Russian officials and Russian media every time before Russia invaded or occupied or set up a pro-Russian government in former USSR countries. For example: Moldova, Georgia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ukraine, and others. 12 out 14 wars that Russia had in since the USSR collapse in 1991 were with former USSR republics.

Far right argument towards Ukraine sounds weird to me. You can check how nationalistic (not even far right) parties are represented in some European parliaments by the number of seats:

Belgium: 43/150 (~27%)
Switzerland: 53/200 (~26%)
Sweden: 73/349 (~21%)
Austria: 31/183 (~17%)
Netherlands: 25/150 (~17%)
France: 89/577 (~15%)
Denmark: 20/179 (~11%)
Check Republic: 20/200 (~10%)
Germany: 67/736 (~9%)
Portugal: 12/230 (~5%)
Ukraine: 1/450 (~0,2%)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_nationalist_parties_in_Europe
Keep in mind that Ukraine is in war since 2014, and during the war the popularity of nationalistic ideas inevitably rockets high.

The far right argument is even more weird just because Ukrainians always lived side by side with other ethnic groups, say with Jews. Between 16-th and 19-th century more than 50% jews of the whole world lived on the territory of Ukraine. Jews used to escape to Ukraine from the rest of Europe (from inquisition in particular) to find safety there. Ukraine is the birthplace of Hasidism -- orthodox Judaism. Greatest Hasidic theoreticians are resting in peace in Ukraine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasidic_Judaism
Our president is an ethnic jew as well as a great deal of our parliament. I am partially jewish according to my DNA test. Apart from jews there are many other ethnicities living peacefully in Ukraine, but you don't hear them being suppressed by far right Ukrainians, except for the "Russian-speaking population".

Another weird aspect of the statement "Russian-speaking Ukrainians were treated when they tried to secede and join Russia" is the following. We have our Constitution, our laws and our political processes and mechanisms how this can be done peacefully. Ukraine is a unitary country (opposed to federation), meaning that if you want to secede and to join any other country, you need to create a party, get to the parliament, propose changes to the Constitution and get them voted on in the national referendum. I don't know any party representing any part of Ukraine that wanted secede.

What happened instead is armed KGB agents together with brainwashed marginals and journalists from Russian propagandistic channels were massively brought in buses from Russia to those Ukrainian territories that Russia wanted to occupy. Those armed "tourists" presented themselves as Russian-speaking-Ukrainians. Owning weapons is forbidden in Ukraine (except for hunting). So when police tried to check their identity and arrest them for carrying weapons, those people started shooting. When police had to shoot in response, Russian officials together with Russian propaganda claimed that Ukrainian nationalist were surpassing “Russian-speaking-Ukrainians”. Then Russian troops were sent to help those “Russian-speaking-Ukrainians”. This is a more or less standard scheme of how Russia occupies territories, not only in Ukraine.

Cheers,
Borys

Dear Borys, I thank you more than you can ever know. I would like you to know that my support for Ukraine has never diminished but I have one more question in order to educate not only myself but my readers. Why are people like Stepan Bandera and others honored with statues and street names in Ukraine?
You have been of great help to me and I mean no disrespect.

Dear Ralph,
Sorry, I’ve just seen your comment. I’ve been to Nice with my ex-girlfriend, so I couldn't check your comments (your blog is too heavy for viewing it on mobile devices). I’m glad that I’ve seen your question about Stepan Bandera. Thanks for asking! I will be glad to help clarify the matter as I understand it.

My answer was too long for a comment, so I've sent it in an email.

Please take my response as just an opinion, that needs to be carefully fact checked and verified.

Cheers,
Borys
