About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

I would have said, "When he couldn't do it anymore..." instead of he died.

ME: Please don’t make me do this.

WIFE: We have no choice, we’re behind on the mortgage.

ME: Hey, Kevin, can we borrow $2000?

MY 11-YEAR-OLD SON, WHO MAKES $40k A MONTH PLAYING DOTA 2: Who’s Kevin?

ME: (sigh) Hey, DongKnocker420Yeeeeet, can we borrow $2000?

I don’t usually brag, but I just got an email saying I have, and I quote, an “outstanding” medical bill.

ON PASSION

I worked very hard organizing a post on how Americans exhibit more passion for their favorite sports team than they do for the mass murders of their fellow citizens and the torment of people not like themselves. I collected images to make every point I wanted to make. I called a few of my gay friends. Then I gave up. You, Gentle Readers, don't need to be convinced that every single American needs the collective protection of the rest of us, and the people who hate homosexuals will not, could not, be swayed by anything I say.

So, I leave you with some images. You can write the script yourself.

German TV host Claudia Neumann in Qatar.

Do we Americans want to align ourselves with the likes of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc., in how we treat our gay community?

This is how I feel when I try to teach that hate is a destructive lifestyle for all concerned.

PEOPLE STRANGER THAN ME

I like tattoos...especially on women.

I much prefer one-of-a-kind over ones picked out of a catalog. But I don't care where this next lady got hers, I would look at it every single day without getting tired of it.

^^B1^^

I could never do that for the same reason I couldn't be hypnotized - my mind is always thinking of multiple things at one time.

^^B2^^

That's just another example of the bane to human progress - "We've always done that way."

^^B3^^

I had to look it up.

Snopes:

Capt. Sir Mansfield Cumming suggested that British intelligence agents use semen as invisible ink during World War I, but later put a stop to it due to the smell.

^^B4^^

What exactly was that?

^^B5^^

Iceland

^^B6^^

People frequently post pictures of other people doing this.

^^B7^^

I once sat at a bar next to an old jockey who had won the Kentucky Derby WHILE we watched the Kentucky Derby on TV.

OBJECTS OF INTEREST

Is that just wasted space behind the panels?

^^C1^^

My mother once told us that she invented gravy and we believed her.

^^C2^^

^^C3^^

^^C4^^

Is that easy enough that even I could do it?

^^C5^^

My next project will involve firewood.

^^C6^^

I had to look up the sound and was not disappointed.

The Majestic Sombrero Galaxy

In 2004, Hubble Space Telescope captured one of the universe's most stately and photogenic galaxies, the Sombrero galaxy, Messier 104 (M104).

The galaxy's hallmark is a brilliant white, bulbous core encircled by the thick dust lanes comprising the galaxy's spiral structure. As seen from the Earth, the galaxy is tilted nearly edge-on.

This brilliant galaxy was named the Sombrero because it resembles the broad rim and high-topped Mexican hat.

At a relatively bright magnitude of 8, M104 is just beyond the limit of naked-eye visibility and is easily seen through small telescopes.

This galaxy lies at the southern edge of the rich Virgo cluster of galaxies and is one of the most massive objects in that group, equivalent to 800 billion suns. The galaxy is 50,000 light-years across and is located 30 million light-years from the Earth.
