About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY

Remember this?

Now this with alterations...

*That would have been true for me at 16.

^^A3^^

^^A4^^

Sometimes I too feel as if I'm only pretending to be normal.

^^A5^^

^^A6^^

This is how I feel when someone emails me some solid golden memes.

I once saved one of my mustaches. First I painted it in place with clear fingernail polish then shaved under it. Lastly, I laminated it.

Then I lost it.

^^A15^^

It bothers me that so many people do shit like that and use trite worn-out pop images.

^^A16^^

What fun!

I found how the roof stays almost intact interesting.

Fart Machine

I placed a Fart Machine under a bush next to the place on the sidewalk where countless older relatives would lean over to hug younger arriving relatives. It was fucking hilarious since it was my wife's family.

Community dinner theater is great because sometimes you’re hungry but you also want to see bad acting.

I actually took my measurements before ordering jeans instead of just guessing which size I should get and I just tried them on and they fit. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

ON THE SERIOUS SIDE

The Pandemic is Over, No Seriously, We Mean It This Time

Except the numbers don't add up, at all.

^^B1^^

^^B2^^

A GPS-free method was developed to detect position with cosmic rays muons.

^^B3^^

I've written several times about the breakfast served in public schools is mostly cold cereal or pizza. But that was not a criticism. "Normal" breakfasts just filled the garbage cans instead of stomachs.

^^B4^^

During WWII, the Japanese/Americans were accused of buying up all the land under power lines in order to sabotage them. The truth is that the sensation the lines created made most people uncomfortable and this the land was cheap.

Or so I read.

^^B5^^

When we brought my first child home my wife look at me in near panic and said, "We don't know what we are doing." I told her that some very stupid people manage to raise children so I'm sure we can figure it out as we go. And, of course, we did.

The truth is, nobody knows what they are doing and all parents are winging it.

^^B6^^

That would actually work. All you would need is a 12v DC to 110v AC converter. I have a converter and it has really come in handy. For instance, you can use power tools anywhere you can drive your truck. And they are cheap.

^^B7^^

What a great idea.

^^B8^^

One of the biggest cringes I've ever experienced was during a documentary on the building of that arch. The man appears to be laying on the last keystone section at the very top. When that section was being lowed into place it didn't fit. The reason was that the morning sun had heated one side of the arch more than the other and the expansion raised it well above the other side. They solved the problem by running water down that section until it cooled to equilibrium. But while they were discussing the problem men would repeatedly jump from one side to the other over that gap. I still shudder thinking about it.

^^B9^^

I predict that this safe haven was passed down from generation to generation for millennia.

^^B10^^

Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture flash flood on 02/10/2021

But then somebody wrote this:

"Normal speed would have been terrifying enough -- no need to speed it up."

So, I looked up the original and it seems that the first clip was, indeed, speeded up.

^^B11^^

This video from last July shows how awful French policing can be. Massive tear gas attack just for fun.

They did prosecute the policewoman who did this, but gave her a suspended sentence of 3 months, and let the others in the car off the hook, although they failed to give assistance to someone in urgent need (after they committed the violence). With cops like this, of course, people riot. Although the case was in the news because of this amateur video, the only news about the conviction appeared in French sources.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park we will be switching off 30 of the world’s most important electric fences.

Government: I can’t believe you committed tax fraud.

Me: What? What did I do??

Government: Wouldn’t you like to know.

HUMAN FOLLY

The wisdom of towing a stack of scaffolding aside, how do you get on the wallboard?

My scaffolding looks like this. Notice the open area where you can crawl through.

If you know how to properly use that scaffold, please let me know. I am keenly curious.

That is called an "Attractive Nuisance".

Did you notice that they both have bare feet?

The instructions must not have been clear.

^^C8^^

When brick "laying" turns into brick "putting".

^^C10^^

My wife knows I’d never cheat on her because she would need to arrange it and remind me 37 times so I don’t forget.

Anyone who thinks things have got so bad that they can only get better is showing a remarkable lack of imagination.

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT

^^D1^^

What a wonderful photograph.

^^D2^^

Remember - malaria is here now.

^^D3^^

^^D4^^

They look like fleet vehicles. But why don't they have them crushed and sold for scrap? My friend RJ had an auto repair shop and many people would just leave their cars when they couldn't afford to pay for repairs. RJ would call a company that had a portable crusher built into a semi-trailer and he got cold hard cash per vehicle AND got his lot cleared.

^^D5^^

I did not know that.

US public school meals are atrocious and points to bad diet. These bad habits will lead to health issues for many later in life.

Thanks for that update. That leads me to a query. Ralph mentioned his buddy would compact the cars and sell for scrap. What happens if you compact an electric car?

Dear NonMaga,
How the hell would I know?
