Yes, Ralph, we're not completely oblivious. I think most of us (in my country anyway) know about Davy Crockett and the signature raccoon hat he was associated with, true or not.
The cartoon is a take on humans wearing raccoon hats.
You'd be amazed at how much foreigners actually 'get' about the US.
