Well, he doesn't look that crazy....

When you look up ecstasy in the dictionary, this is the photo that should accompany it.

I had a conversation with a very learned Jew the other day. He and I have a rather special relationship. I see him almost every day, but we don't chit-chat. We only talk if there is something more or less important to say...or in my case, ask. I told him of an Op-Ed piece that stated that the Jews in Israel would never allow themselves to be persecuted again and would fight with any means necessary.
I asked my Jewish lawyer friend why the Jews have been persecuted throughout history.
His answer confused me. His eyes swelled and he began to list all the other people in the world who were or are persecuted. I'm far too stupid to remember all the groups, but he was strong in his conviction that the Jews were not alone. Almost as if I had offended him.
It almost seems as if everybody needs somebody to hate. And the only thing separating hate from persecution is power.
I would like to break that power/persecution bond. I vow to only hate and/or persecute you if you give me permission. That permission comes when you harm or attempt to harm me or any innocent I care about.

DOGS

Except for the years I was in the military, I have always owned a dog....or a dog has always owned me...a very, very subtle distinction. 

I have a son in law from the middle-east who....how can I put this....is negatively effected by dogs. Believe it or not, people in Iran consider the beasts unclean and shun them. Now, even though he owns a dog, he still washes his hands every time he touches his pet...the same pet who would die for him if an intruder broke into his home.  Interesting that.

A PLACE WHERE I HAVE VACATIONED MANY TIMES

Isla Mujeres is a tiny island off the coast of Mexico. On the west (top) part of the island they have trinket shops and restaurants and such. Some of the restaurants are top-notched.
I remember telling my wife as we dined that we were Americans in Mexico eating in a French restaurant listening to Italian opera. Nice memory that.

They have a lot of funky bars on the beach on the "rich" end of the island.

But we never liked to stay were other tourists go. We would rent thatch roofed cabanas on the south end, on the alee side that was so quiet if you coughed they heard it five miles down the beach.

Being on the alee side, many days there were no waves whatsoever. The bestest thing in the whole world for me was sitting in a chair under one of those palms and editing one of my novels. For you people who don't write, the difference between editing on the computer and editing the printed manuscript is like looking at a porn site and bathing with your beautiful wife.  Yeah, there's that much difference.

NOTE: I have been getting tons of comments on older blogs. I'm new at this blogging thing, so let me tell you my problem. If I reply to your comment on a post made six months ago....NO ONE WILL SEE IT! Even the person who made the comment isn't going to go back to that same post again.  Not sure how to deal with this.
