About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

NEWSY BITS

In its relatively small travels on the Martian surface (less than the size of Manhattan), our little friend Curiosity has made a discovery of a lifetime.  Today, NASA released information that they have identified "The Building Blocks of Life" in the Martian soil.
From Space.com:  NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has identified a variety of organic molecules, the carbon-based building blocks of life as we know it, in 3.5-billion-year-old Red Planet rocks, one of the papers reports.  This is a pretty big discovery for Humanity, the first confirmation that life can exist off of our tiny blue planet and the possibilities are endless from there.

And in other Mars news
CAPE CANAVERAL, FL—Stunned by both the sheer good fortune of their discovery and its implications for future exploration, scientists at NASA confirmed Friday that the Curiosity Rover had found five bucks in the red dust of Mars’ Gale Crater. “This is unbelievable—five whole American dollars!” said the program director.

I had a lot of respect for this guy. In my opinion, he had the perfect job.

WARNING: DO NOT suggest to your wife that you will pay $100 to one of her friends to accompany her to have a colonoscopy. I know that now.

Did you know that python eggs are all stuck together?
It's so the mother can protect them from egg-snatching predators better, and to keep them from rolling away, and to keep them in the brood because some pythons have evolved to warm their eggs by shivering as they squeeze the clutch.

Look, we all loved this guy, but he is too much of a hotdog for me.
He could have educated us without endangering himself at every opportunity.
