HOW MUCH MORE CAN AMERICA TAKE
The police respond to every call pertaining to homeless people's misbehavior. This should be the duty of Social Services.
Police respond to calls about out of control students in public schools. This is better handled by people trained for such things.
And what about domestic distress calls? I would organize a special unit that has actually been trained in how to deescalate such things.
Cops have been trained to use overwhelming force to subdue criminals and gain control as soon as possible.
In my opinion, trying to apprehend a man who tries to pass a fake $20 bill does not reach the threshold of overwhelming violence.
Defunding police means reallocating funds to agencies better qualified than cops to cope with specific challenges.
What defunding the police does not mean is that you will not get a cop to come to your house when you hear a break-in. Period.
