About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

ALLOW ME TO MOUNT MY SOAPBOX

What things do we do now, today, that will cause our children great embarrassment?

Every time I tell someone that I grew up in Alabama they think I am a racist. For the record, I was a racist, but I had an epiphany along about the 11th grade. I now try to demonstrate every day that I am no longer that person.

"True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice."

Martin Luther King Jr. deserves every honor that has been bestowed on him. His policy of non-violence was the only policy that would have gotten the black community the gains they eventually achieved; knowing there were many whites that wanted nothing more than to kill uppity blacks.

Dr. King was added to Westminster Abbey in 1998, four years after he received the Nobel Peace Prize.

I haven't chastised you women for this in a while.

Honestly ask yourself: Does this look healthy to you?
If we forced an animal to walk around like that we would be thrown in jail for cruelty.
=2=

If you want to invent a corrupt system, the first thing you should do is create a rule that requires every person to tell the powers that be all their dirty little secrets.

Today, in some places, that confession can be done via a phone line. Cute.
Have you ever thought about reading the bible as if it were a regular novel - starting with a talking snake and ending with an eight-headed monster?
And a child could do better.
=3=

I was once in the back seat of a car that drove off the road into a huge ditch. As the car flipped and rolled over and over again for fifty yards, time seemed to slow down. I knew I was going to die and just wished it would be fast with little or no pain.
I still wish for that.
=4=

I had a friend who preferred women with a belly on her.
That got me thinking about the things I preferred and it all boiled down to size. I can't tolerate overweight women. Should I be ashamed of that? Hell, I don't know.
=5=

Mr. Bart Starr, #15
I think of this man often. Not because he was one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, but because he was my neighbor and a gentle and genuinely nice man...until he got on the football field, of course.
=6=

I don't mind spending time alone, but I never want to be alone. I must have someone to share my life with and can't imagine the void in my life if I had to live without such a person.

If I traveled back in time I would find some guy to slap across the cheek with a glove and call a scoundrel.

ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY

We have all seen one of these...

Well, this guy took it one step further...
=8=

I call this a gimmick.
I don't necessarily dislike it, I just find it hard to take seriously.
=9=

I find the juxtaposition of art and destruction intriguing.
=10=

Being a professional muralist I feel qualified to appraise other murals and these are good.

=11=

There is nothing wrong with humor in art...thank god.
The added drama helps also.
=12=

Parody is fun. This one concerns Doubting Thomas in a modern setting.
Did you notice her panties?
=13=

I'm going to assume the portraits of him were done by non-trained people because they are awful.
=14=

PHOTOGRAPHY

Of the trillions of photographs taken every day most are trash.
Without training, artistry is impossible.
=15=

I like images that suggest a story; this being one of them.

And as an aid for you people viewing this on your tiny phone screen...
I also find the hair stubble rather sexy.
=16=

Looking down on the landscape is the only thing I like about flying. Photographs of same still please me.

=17=

Speaking of images telling a story, I could write a novel based on this one image alone.
=18=

This was titled Babushka and it tells a powerful story.
ba·bush·ka
/bəˈbo͝oSHkə/ noun
(in Poland and Russia) an old woman or grandmother.

Interestingly, when I Googled babushka this was at the top of the page: "About 25,270,000,000 results"
Could that possibly be true?

Shopping lovers.
This is the perfect segue for my next section.

I’ve made a lot of bad decisions in my life but I never ate candy corn on purpose.

SCIENCE AND STUFF

=22=

Comings and goings...

=23=

Scientists still don't know why this happens.
I find that very depressing.
=24=

I'm still disappointed that the power of our devices is being wasted.

You know a corn maze is going to be intense when it has a missing-child poster at the entrance.
