About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

Guy did massive research on passwords and found 11% of the 3.4 million passwords are 1234. 1111 with over 6%. The most “puzzling” password he encountered was 2580 in position #22. What is the significance of these digits? Why should so many people select this code to make it appear so high up the list? Anybody want to take a guess as to why?

I was once at a family reunion and my mom asked me for a pot holder, and I handed her a zip lock bag.

The ACLU deposed Judge Jack H Weil, a senior judge responsible for training other immigration judges, in a case over whether 3- and 4-year-olds needed legal representation during deportation hearings. Judge Weil insisted that children as young as three could be taught the basics of immigration law and didn't need taxpayer-funded lawyers in order to get a fair hearing.

First the set-up…
Many, many years ago I had my family dress in the warmest clothes they had and pose for a photo outside with a temperature of 105 degrees. I don’t know why I did this, I just did it. They were all pissed off, of course, but I used the photo to paint a rather large painting...about 7'x5'. It is now hanging in one of my wife’s stores.

Well, one of the employees took this photo and did a face swap. I fucking love it!

Think you know the history of famous women? Take this simple and fast test. Here’s my score.

If you don’t remember what Rule 39 is, here’s a hint…
On a related subject, here is one of my bartenders. She’s moved on to bigger and better things now. Her name is Amber and I'm proud to call her a friend.
When she first started working at my bar I said, “Please tell me that you are working on a degree.” She said that she was and I asked her major. Very seductively she said, “Human sexuality.” I smiled and said that I thought everyone her age were at least minoring in it. She, in fact, got her degree in Gender Studies and received several job offers before she graduated.

This is true I’m afraid.

My wife, one of the least racist people in the world was once accused of firing an inept employee because she was black.

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine has created the Integrated Tissue and Organ Printing System (ITOP) for 3D bioprinting human tissue with increased structural integrity using biodegradable plastic scaffolding. The tissue is printed around layers of biodegradable polycaprolactone which gives the printed form a rigid structure to build around before it slowly dissolves away.

The corporation that my father worked at for decades developed the first milk bag with this type of cut off dispenser.
I remember him bringing home samples and how it “would revolutionize drink dispensing.”

Yes I would find a way to bet money on this.

In June 1998 a local pilot flying over the remote South Australian desert discovered an enormous drawing of an Aboriginal man hunting with a throwing stick made on the desert floor, about 60 km west of the town of Marree. The figure is 4.2 km tall with a perimeter of 28 km, making it one of the single largest geoglyph in the world.
Note: I hope that is true, but I have no proof.

This looks like such a clever idea…

Houston-based sculptor David Adickes first went to visit Mount Rushmore in the early nineties. The sight bedazzled him, but also disappointed him because the heads were high up and inaccessible. So Adickes decided to build something where visitors can get up close and personal with the heads of the presidents. Emboldened by his recent success at Huntsville, Texas, where he created a gargantuan statue of Sam Houston in 2003, Adickes set about creating his own “Presidents Park” just 40 miles away from Mount Rushmore in the town of Lead.
Looks like a great place to play hide and go seek.

John Markoff reports on an important area of research: how to make a talking computer sound friendly and approachable to humans? The trick, as exemplified by IBM's Jeopardy-winning Watson and Apple's Siri: you want it to sound slightly robotic, thereby avoiding uncanniness.
I have mentioned before that I really like for my computer to read all the books I write to me. I always pick up on he for she and other mistakes that the human brain often skips over. My computer comes with a dozen or so voices and you can adjust the speed at which it reads. Surprisingly, the best voice for me was named Ralph and I love him very much.

It’s all about the light.

Amazing. The boards in the door, the sink, the sides of the rug all point toward the person. Then there are the duplication of the oval – the window, the tub, the toilet, the doorknob and her neckline.

I so hope that wasn’t done with a computer.
