About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

One Of My Very Own…

This still amazes me. I even like to study how they made all that styrofoam look like marble or granite.

Remember this lady. Patrica Hearst, rich, well-educated, kidnapped then joined the kidnappers. Classic case of Stockholm Syndrome.

And she was sent to prison. I never understood that.

Why aren't hockey fights considered assault? If one of them died it would surely be manslaughter.

I've never understood why the rules of civilized society break down in any athletic event. What if one chess champion attacked another? Or contestants in a spelling bee?

Do you recall how mile marker sign 420 was being stolen all over the country? Well, you can imagine these guys' problem...

This is still one of my favorite movies.

Grigori Rasputin, 1916

He is proof that there are people who will believe just about anything, no matter how ridiculous they may be.

On a lighter note, he was very hard to kill.

WHEN ANIMALS DECIDE TO BE SOMEWHERE ELSE AT THE SAME TIME.

I am going to assume they are all looking for mates, but I do find it interesting that the whole mass moves behind that V formation.

This may be a huge orge for all I know, but I suspect there is food nearby.

What no cork screw?

I'm not even sure that's real, but it does have a humorously odd appearance.

1935 cartoon on Italian invasion of Abyssinia (modern Ethiopia)

And on a similar note...

I hate having to be nice to someone I don't like just because my wife told me I had to.

When Mommy's busy...

The story goes, when my father's mother had to go outside to hang out clothes or something like that, she would lift a leg of the bed off the floor and bring it down on my baby father's night shirt. Then she would rub a little molasses on both his thumb and index finger tips. Then she would hand him a small feather. Almost immediately he would try to throw it away, but he couldn't. So he would pick it off the stuck finger with another sticky finger. And this continued long enough for her to return.

I would say that in this day and time it is almost impossible to hide something in you home in such a way that the cops won't find it.

I guess that explains why so many of them drowned. They were too fat to swim.

Ancient roman dice tower used in the playing of dice games. 4th century AD, found in Germany. The main inscription on the front reads Pictos victos, Hostis deleta, Ludite securi – “Now the Picts have been conquered and the enemies destroyed, play safely”.

The other words are utere felix vivas – “use and be lucky”.

There's a film Goon, that presents s fictionalized but nevertheless interesting and entertaining perspective of ice hockey fighting. I don't know how true to life the scenes and character motivations are, but it portrays on-ice fights in an unexpected light.
Also, it's fun to watch a typecast young actor break away from his/her stereotype. It's a pretty good movie.
