About Me

My photo
I'm an artist, educator, militant anti-theist , and I write. I gamble on just about anything. And I like beer...but I love my wife. This blog contains observations from a funny old man who gets pissed off every once in a while.

HUMAN INNOVATION

^^A1^^

I did something similar with my toybox.

^^A2^^

Cop and perp solving the same problem in different ways...

^^A3^^

Can any of you gamers explain the wisdom of that?

^^A4^^

Nothing demonstrates human innovation like food preparation.

Some innovations are more successful than others...

^^A5^^

I want to know what kind of shampoo she uses.

^^A6^^

Modern people have a world of visual and storytelling stimuli available to them on the internet and they demand drama. This has resulted in these types of inane fabricated plot lines in "reality" shows...

I tried to get into a show about home improvement but there was ALWAYS a deadline and there was ALWAYS a major problem to be overcome with only minutes to go. In my opinion that was totally unnecessary. I just wanted to learn some new home improvement skills.

^^A7^^

I ran across that quote with no other information. I knew I had heard it in a movie but couldn't put my finger on which one. I Googled it for the answer. Now take your guess before scrolling down for the answer.

It was this racist bastard from

Oh, Brother Where Art Thou.

^^A8^^

However, invented this should go straight to hell.

I find it perplexing that one guy poisoned a jar of Tylenol and it resulted in EVERY over-the-counter product having a seal but countless children are murdered in their classroom and we DO NOTHING.

^^A9^^

My pet peeve is the controls on electronic devices with designations that are unreadable. These are the controls for my auxiliary speaker.

Damn girl, if you were a fruit you'd be a fineapple, and if you were a vegetable I would visit you in the hospital as often as I could.

FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY

^^B1^^

God, I would have loved to have seen that play.

^^B2^^

^^B3^^

I have written about humans' ability to find a face with very few visual clues. Well, I see other things with very few visual clues.

And...

^^B4^^

And then there's fornication...

And...

^^B5^^

^^B6^^

That is what hangs on my wall instead of Live, Laugh, and Love.

^^B7^^

Back when instead of Live, Laugh, Love it was Languish, Lament, Lay About...

My wife is a sapiosexual and that's why she married me.

GET LEARNT

Why didn't Crocodiles do the way of the dino?

Paleo Analysis tackles the topic and explains what biological changes crocodiles had to make to survive from the Mesozoic era to now.

^^C1^^

^^C2^^

I wrote:

"I figure the four main crops are: corn, wheat, soybeans, and rice. So, weed replaced which crop that was fifth?"

A viewer did the research:

"That figure of a little more than $6 billion “ranks (cannabis) as the fifth most valuable crop in the United States,” trailing corn ($61 billion), soybeans ($46 billion), hay ($17.3 billion), and wheat ($9.3 billion) but outpacing cotton ($4.7 billion), rice ($3.1 billion), and peanuts ($1.3 billion).

I would like to publicly thank Ponder for his contributions to Folio Olio.

The oldest 'belly button' known to science has been found on an exquisitely preserved horned dinosaur fossil from China. The slit-like scar comes not from an umbilical cord, as it does in mammals, but from the yolk sac of the egg-laying creature that lived about 130 million years ago.

^^C5^^

Deep beneath the waves, there's a source of power quite unlike any other. To tap into it, Japanese engineers have constructed a true leviathan, a beast capable of withstanding the strongest of ocean currents to transform its flow into a virtually limitless supply of electricity.

^^C6^^

Japanese researchers have discovered more than 20 amino acids on the space rock Ryugu, which is more than 200 million miles (320 million kilometers) from Earth. Scientists made the first-of-its-kind detection by studying samples retrieved from the near-Earth asteroid by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's (JAXA) Hayabusa2 spacecraft, which landed on Ryugu in 2018.

^^C7^^

To repeat: A highly educated citizenry is a matter of national security.

^^C8^^

As most of you know I have been collecting quarters and dollar bills for decades. The trick is never to spend either of them. If the bill is $21.25 then you give them $25 even if your pocket is bulging with ones and quarters.

That guy's total of $175 in two years is pathetic.

Fucking amateur.

^^C9^^

The Truth About Bird Bones

I did not know that.

^^C10^^

Let's Ask The Europeans

Foreigners simply can comprehend the insanity.

^^C11^^

NRA Prohibitions

So much for "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun".

^^C12^^

 ‘Hey, what’s up, scumbag?’

Giuliani claims he was assaulted by a supermarket employee who slapped him on the back. The man was arrested for second-degree assault.

The similarities are striking...

DOCTOR: I have good news and bad news.

SCHRÖDINGER: Give me both at the same time.

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT

Does anyone want to offer an explanation for that?

^^D1^^

This took me far too long to understand.

If the images on the internet are any proof then this happens far too often not to take drastic action. I suggest hanging bars on the approach to low bridges.

^^D2^^

Might I suggest phone booth-like structures with excellent ventilation for smokers? Place them around the back if you want. The last I heard, 25% of us smoke and that's a huge percentage to inconvenience.

*I am not advocating smoking.

^^D3^^

^^D4^^

^^D5^^

Situational awareness at its finest.

^^D6^^

Can you imagine being so famous that you are instantly recognized all over the world?

^^D7^^

Do you believe that everyone has a doppelgänger?

I once hired a young man for my mural crew and he ended up so good I made him my partner. The guy above looks exactly like my partner.

^^D8^^

The fear of heights is in our genes.

Yet some people can overcome that fear.

^^D9^^

Faced with this bridge-like fallen tree early man had a decision to make. Do I chance the fall or walk around the depression.

^^D10^^

Modern man is still making that same decision.

^^D11^^

If you have degrees and are struggling with student debt you should have :
- completed a degree that is likely to earn enough to pay back your debt
- not gone to the most expensive college but a more reasonable one
- worked during college to keep loans as low as possible

and then challenged the college on why :
- costs have risen way more than inflation
- academic staff numbers have remainded constant, but non academic and administrators have increased hugely
- they have so many diversity and title ix staff positions
- why they spend so much on sport
- why they built waterparks and climbing walls (https://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/tricked-college-campuses-water-parks-luxury-dorms/story?id=26164491)

The colleges have been able to increasse the cost of tuition because of the federal backed loans. If students couldn't get loans, the cost of college would fall as they got rid of anything not required and focussed on the core aim of college

Most mass shootings aren't school related.

Ralph Henry said...

Dear Gunker, In your opinion, what is the "core aim of college"? And please don't tell me it is simply a way to make more money.

Ralph
Primary aim is educate students with a strong secondary aim of pursuing knowledge.
