FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I don't like being a bit of a downer day after day but it is hard not to get upset when my comment box is full of people telling me manmade climate change is a hoax because the climate has always changed - then he tells me about the Ice Age. Or the multiple people who try to convince me that masks are worthless in mitigating an airborne pathogen. I chalk most of these people up to trolls who just like fucking with people. So, I am going to try and ignore the guy who tells me there are just as many scientists who don't believe in manmade climate change as believe it. You don't deserve my rants but in twenty years when my grandson asks what I did to combat the problems that destroyed America, I at least want to be able to say I didn't ignore them.
And the chocolate was harvested by slave labor and none of us seem to give a shit.
Viva la Mexico!
That wouldn't work but it is nice to think about.
I don't blame people who faithfully adhere to their company's dress code but if you stop and think about it, it's illogical. Men wear shirts buttoned all the way to their chin, then secured the collar with a tied knot, and they wear a long-sleeved jacket even in the hottest months. I won't bore you again with my views on women's high-heeled shoes or buying clothes without any pockets.
I knew I would like my son-in-law when I found out he doesn't own a necktie. Then once the event he was attending had a tie requirement so he just draped a borrowed tie around his neck because there was nothing in the requirement that stated the tie had to be tied.
So...3 out of 4 don't regret it. Furthermore, I will bet money that that guy has switched jobs numerous times.
The realization that my death date is getting quite close has motivated me to work harder than I have ever worked in my life.
I find it overwhelmingly distressing the number of people who think a college degree is a waste of money - as if making money is the prime motivating factor for gaining knowledge.
Unions are like condoms. If someone is determined to convince you that you don't need one, you DEFINITELY need one.

What do you think that's about?

How traditional Uzbek bread is made. The doughs are baked upside down, where the heat keeps them in place and the bakers know exactly when to grab them out of the oven before they fall off.

With rice transplanting, seedlings are grown in a nursery, transported, and transplanted into puddled fields 15 to 40 days after seeding, Rice seedlings can be transplanted manually or by machine.

A11: The cost of college exceeds the value that one receives for payment. It's a simple economics "opportunity cost" situation.
I'm not going to waste 4 years and $120,000 to learn something I can read on the internet and watch YouTube lectures on for free.
It's not about making money, it's about the amount of debt one has to incur to gain said knowledge.
I can learn all of the math, all of the physics, and all of the computer science I want to for free. I'm just not willing to pay the steep price tag for the piece of paper that says I know it.
C3: looks like they finally got that pipe out.
Dear A11 Anon, That's not how formal knowledge acquisition works. But, never mind, I could never convince you.
So, let's try another approach...my #1 advisor's physics classes are full of bright young people from India and China. With your logic the governments of those countries are fools to waste the money - they could just as well watch a few YouTube videos.
And did you notice that the elite officer corp is educated at a university?
What's frightening to me is that the rest of the world is doing everything in their power to formally educate as many of their students as possible and in America, our youth are bombarded with misinformed diatribes of its worthless.
YouTube videos, indeed.

Dear C3 Anon, But what kind of pipe? I'm thinking air duct.

To that anti-college guy,
So why go to church? You can learn everything you need to know about salvation from Youtube.
D7: The Balls get cleaned several times per frame in Snooker but it rarely happens in pool because the balls and pockets are much larger and less likely to be affected by Chalk on the balls. You've gotta check out Ronnie O'Sullivan, Jimmy White, Tony Drago and Alex Higgins. They're MAGICIANS!!! Especially Ronnie O'Sullivan. He's Unbelievable.
A11: No, just enough to pay their own debt. After that, who cares. They can apply all they learned in their French Romantic Poetry classes working at the McDonalds.
